I used to be a parent that tried to keep toy guns out of the house. I found my son creating guns out of sticks and other household materials. I also see him with his friends, and I've come to the realization that it's inate in boys to want to play with toy guns.

I was also told that if you keep toy guns away from kids, then there may be an unresolved fascnination with guns, which could lead to trouble later on in life.

Now... I've come to accept it. We have lots of toy nerf guns in the house. My son and his friends have battles all the time. They also have fun aiming at targets. Because nerf guns cannot be mistaken for real guns, and because the dart is made of styrofoam, I actually do think it's a great toy. It certain gets played with!
