Toys And Why We Need An Extra Room

The world as we know it is really messed up. Mattel and Fisher Price, the very people who brought us Tickle-Me-Elmo as the toy of the season last Christmas, have allowed some of America's babies to play with and put in their little mouths, toys painted with lead paint. I do accept the explanation that their executives set guidelines for the factory owners in China. Part of the directive was don't use lead paint, however someone should have followed up on that. This is not a case of putting the wrong labels on clothing and not having it fit the American baby. This is an extreme danger to the little toddlers. How ironic that parents are buying educational toys - that may cause brain damage if - change that to when - they put them in their mouths. It will be some time before the company regains the trust of the American public.

On the positive side, Fisher Price/Mattel has brought us that amazing Tickle-Me-Elmo. He can laugh, kick his feet in the air after falling on his back. He can then roll over and stand up all by himself. He even does a somersault. All this with one arm attached to his body. Did I mention that he can talk. I cannot praise him enough for his comedic value.

Back to the negative. That Barbie is still a sexy little thing for the three to seven year old set. Sure her hair is beautiful and I believe she dumped Ken last year, but she still has her feet permanently ready to slip in to high heels. She has definitely raised her aspirations from wanting to settle down in her townhouse with Ken and drive around in her convertible with her hair flowing behind her. Barbie has evolved into a modern girl. You will find her on the shelf at your favorite store wearing her white lab coat as she cares for animals in her Veterinarian persona. She has appeared as a teacher, on horseback, as a gymnast, a ballet dancer as well as modeling her annual Christmas outfit. You can buy her dressed in costumes representing countries around the world. Barbie loves Tickle-Me-Elmo as much as the kids do. She comes packaged with a little copy of him. She wears a picture of him on her shirt and carries a purse with him peeking from the front of it and his face is on her belt buckle. He giggles when you press his tummy just as the big acrobatic one does. The only warning on the box says "WARNING May Cause Uncontrollable Laughter." I hope that indicates we don't have to worry about lead paint on this toy.

Let's create a fictitious little girl about six years old. For fun we'll name her Ruby Doo. She loves her Elmos (and I say Elmos since there is the first Elmo from ten years ago, the Chicken Dance Elmo, the Hokey Pokey Elmo who sits next to the Elmo who simply is stuffed and soft and looks cute. He must be named old-fashioned Elmo. She lines them up and plays with one every now and then.

This week though it is her Barbie doll house and little sister Chrissy who keep her busy. I'm not sure which companies make all the craft toys but they are wonderful and she loves making things with them. But the latest advance that has mothers sighing with relief is the finger painting book which sells with paint that won't show up except on the paper it was intended to show up on. I think it is made by Crayola. I don't know how she or he did it but the employee who invented this deserves a big raise. From the mothers of America, we don't know what your name is but thank you - thank you - thank you..

If you are looking for a Barbie house that is durable, I would strongly advise you to check out another house. This house is very flimsy, cheaply made and not worth the money. It comes with extremely small pieces. It is very hard to operate for small hands (larger hands also). If you are like me you spend a lot of money with Barbie, this certainly does not deserve a penny. Barbie does offer another 3 decker house, very sturdy, very well built and a much better choice.

I think this dollhouse is cute and bought it for my 3-year-old daughter so she could have a fairly compact house for her Barbies. However, after one afternoon of play I could tell the second floor of this house might eventually break. My daughter and her friend kept leaning on the second floor with their hands and the support structure does NOT appear to be strong enough to handle much weight—it kept on creaking like the plastic was going to snap! Also, the second floor did not stay connected to the side of the house as the design intends. I returned the dollhouse immediately!

Last Christmas, my 6 year old daughter didn’t put this item on her Christmas wish list. But, I would watch her play house with her Barbies day after day. I decided to go ahead and purchase it. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. Of all the toys she received last Christmas, she would play with this everyday – even after she got bored with her other top toys on her Christmas list. It takes a little long to set up (there are alot of stickers). What I like, as a parent, is that it is portable, light, and she is able to set up and put away without any help. It folds nicely for storage. I was so glad that I didn’t buy one of the other bulky Barbie stand alone house or hotel. For the price, the Barbie Townhouse is worth it for hours of FUN!

After hearing some negative reveiws on this I was’nt sure if I should buy this well I finally decided to and boy am I glad that I did. My four year old daughter plays with if for hours at a time. As far as it for being durable I have had no problems with it. Like any toy if your rough with it yes it will break, if your gental it will be fine. In all it was a good investment.

The Barbie Talking Townhouse is awesome! My six-year-old sister got this dollhouse for Christmas from Santa and the entire household delights in playing with it! My Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls are usually the
inhabitants of this house, but they love it too! Even though it only says the name “Barbie,” all eleven-and-a-half inch dolls can live in this talking
delight!

Yes the music is way too loud but its that way on any barbie toy, my 9 yr old has the barbie house that also makes alot loud sounds like the toilet flushing & disco music so I just close her door when she is playing w/ it. She really wanted this boat but I thought $70 was way too much for it so I waited for the price to go down and Amazon came through for me, I got it for $40 w/ free shipping. Gotta love barbie & Amazon.

Fun for a while, then the shine wears off. The neat thing is all fits inside the boat and locks up, so you don’t have a bunch of accessories you need to find yet another place for. Glad I got it on sale. The regular almost $[...] buck price tag would be a bit high. She enjoys it, but think that when summer is here and she can take it outside and play more with the water feature, it will offer more enjoyment. Don’t know if I would re-buy it, however.

The Barbie cruise boat is great except that the arm of the boat that holds the disco ball does not stay in place as shown in the picture or in the instructions. It is unfortunate because it makes it difficult to play underneath on the dance floor. Otherwise my 3 year old and 5year old love it. I will be calling the customer service number for help to correct the issue.

Hi all,

I got this Barbie Party Cruise ship for my 8 yo. for Christmas & for her to share w/younger sisters (ages 5yo.& 3 1/2yo.)It’s been a while since Christmas but, they still are enjoying it. More so now that her sisters are getting bigger. They actually have fun using it with other smaller dolls as well. Although, I haven’t let them fill it with water yet I’m sure they will like that too. The quality is pretty good. Closing is a little challenging, it sort of snaps at hinges but her being older is not a problem. It offers plenty of play/imagination space but, I think I like the design of some of the older ships how they open a little better. But, I do see how it makes it easier for younger girls who might struggle with larger dolls & fitting them inside. I like how everything stores nicely inside with room for some extras & Barbies. It fits nicely on top of her portable closet & I’m sure would fit most shelves for tidying up. But, I will say this one stayed open for some time after Christmas before I was able to close it up for a bit:) Now it is back out for Spring play! Ohh… Almost forgot!!! They love the ship sounds, dolphin & dance music it plays! I laugh at how it reminds me of a 70′s disco. LOL! My daughters favorite accessory is the dolphin that she lovingly named “Dinah” (after her grandma Diane) Thank you for the perfect Christmas gift! Lisa, from Ct.

I just bought a second Savannah dollhouse, for a granddaughter that will be three in June. I bought the first Savannah dollhouse, four years ago, for a granddaughter, who will shortly turn seven. It is still the certerpiece of her room. The dollhouse still looks as if it’s new, and my grandaughter still loves and plays with it. This beautiful, colorful, and very sturdy dollhouse, has stood the test of time, and has passed with flying colors. I was also surprised with the included oversized, and very sturdy furniture, that is easy to handle, and still looks great. I have more granddaughters, that will need dollhouses in the future, and I know that this one will be available, years from now. Don’t hesitate to buy this dollhouse, it’s a winner!

This is a very large, very pretty dollhouse. The girls love it. However, in the description it does say it is made of wood, which lead me to believe that the house is made of wood. The frame of the house is, but the walls and floors are basically just cardboard and the stairs are cheap plastic. The stickers that mark the pieces for assembly rip off the decorations on the cardboard, making the house flawed from the start. I’m not sure how well this will hold up with heavy play, I would think it will only take one time of a child trying to climb into it or falling against it for the cardboard to get bent or creased or just break out all together. The furniture in the house is real wood, and very nice. The house is HUGE, my daughter is 4 and very tall and she cannot reach into the attic without a stool. So, IF the house lasts long enough, it will grow with your child.

My 6 year old daughter was so happy to see this dollhouse! It is huge, easy to play with and she has enjoyed it so much. She is tall for her age and it is over her head. We like the attic and the patios. It is nice that it comes with some wood furniture. Also noticed at Target that you can buy more furniture “rooms.” Make sure you compare prices-have seen quite a range

Huge hit on Christmas morning! This dollhouse is absolutely beautiful and it’s bigger and roomier than you think it’s going to be – perfect for play with many Barbies, Groovy Girls, all at once. Allow two hours and two people for construction. Packaged very well so even though my box was soaked (UPS left it on my porch without plastic on a rainy day) and had a lot of damage upon arrival, the dollhouse was cozy and dry inside the packaging. Directions are a little hard to figure out at first, but after you figure out what all the symbols mean, it’s pretty straight-forward. Worth the price. Absolutely top-quality product – beautifully made and impressive! I can see this being played with for many years then passed down.

This dollhouse will make any little girl very happy. We are very particular and spent hours searching for the perfect dollhouse — We definitely found it!

You will be blown away at how beautiful this is — even prettier than the picture.

Our 3 1/2 year old is obsessed with Barbies and this dollhouse works perfectly and has plenty of room for adding furniture. She will be overwhelmed with joy this Christmas!

We purchased from Baby Age and it was deliverd in perfect condition in only 3 days. It took about two hours to assemble and is a very sturdy, high quality product.
